This bass was an 18th birthday present.  It was purchased second hand from a local music shop on the recommendation of a bass-playing friend of Tony's.  We thought it was a nice guitar, but didn't realise quite how good it was until we took it to internationally renowned guitar technician and luthier, Martyn Booth.

Possibly dating from as early as 1973, the guitar is certainly older than Paul himself and Martyn explained that, although it isn't very valuable, it is a very well made guitar, a pleasure to play and had "an open articulate sound".

Martyn was so taken with the guitar that he sent details to Bassist magazine.  This resulted in them publishing an article in August 1998, which can be read here.  (N.B. this is a pdf file, which requires Adobe Reader in order to read it.)
