East Anglia's Leading Rock & Roll Band Patrick Eggle Berlin DLX |
|
FOREWORD This guitar is very similar to Tony's main guitar, the Berlin Pro. However, a completely dissimilar set of pickups and controls have been fitted to give a different feel and much more full-bodied sound. It is used for raw blues/rock. HISTORY The Berlin Pro was Patrick Eggle's flagship model and the Deluxe (DLX) one of the best specifications. The maple body cap is very highly figured, making it very desirable and one of the highest grades. The DLX was also fitted with gold hardware and has a falling leaf inlay at the twelfth fret. Little is known of this guitar's early life, although it was obviously worked hard. When a fellow member of the Patrick Eggle Forum bought it from a shop in March 2007, it was in a very poor condition. The finish was badly damaged, the electrics were malfunctioning and the hardware was seized. Tony restored it for the owner and then bought it June 2008, when he fitted new pickups and modified the electrics. SPECIFICATION Made: 1992; Serial number: BDL 11-92 1299; Body: Maple with a book-matched maple cap; Neck: Mahogany with an ebony fret board; Tuners: gold locking Sperzels; Bridge: gold Wilkinson VS100 locking vibrato; Pickups: A matched pair of Bare Knuckle Geoff Whitehorn Crawlers; Controls: 3-way selector, volume and tone control. MODIFICATIONS The old lacquer finish was removed and the body and neck were sanded to provide a smooth surface for the final finish. After applying 20 coats of Liberon finishing oil, the whole surface was flattened and then buffed to a deep patina. The 3-way rotary selector was changed for a conventional tone control and a new volume pot fitted to control the new matched pair of Bare Knuckle Geoff Whitehorn Crawler pickups. Gold plated pickup covers and new gold plated control knobs. More pictures and information here.
