East Anglia's Leading Rock & Roll Band Patrick Eggle Los Angeles Pro II |
|
FOREWORD This is Tony's "Strat", which he uses for The Shadows numbers HISTORY Patrick Eggle made several guitars that tipped their hats at Leo Fender's finest and he called the range Los Angeles. This is the Los Angeles Pro II, which, with three single coils and a 5-way selector, is more like a Stratocaster than the stacked humbucker equipped Los Angeles Plus, but slightly less "Straty" that the Los Angeles Classic with the pickups mounted on a scratch plate. Little is known of this guitar's early life, but Tony bought it on eBay in late 2007. It was in an exceptionally poor condition with large chunks knocked out of the lacquer finish and a peculiar modification to the electrics. SPECIFICATION Made: 1993; Serial number: LA 7-93 599; Body: 3A figured maple 5 millimetre drop top cap on high grade swamp ash body with fake edge binding; Neck: Bolt on maple with ebony fingerboard with small scale mother of pearl inlays, headstock veneer to match and wilkaloid nut; Tuners: locking Sperzels; Bridge: Wilkinson PE100 fastshift vibrato; Pickups: Three Diggins/Williams designed Eggle BYFO single coils back mounted and built in hand made ebony covers with Eggle mother of pearl inlay on Bridge pickup,; Controls: Volume and tone control with 5-way slider pickup selector switch. MODIFICATIONS The guitar was taken to pieces, re-wired back to the original specification, reassembled and setup to play well. As the original vibrato arm was missing and they are not available now, 5mm push-in arm was modified to fit. The guitar plays well and sounds good now, but it is still very badly marked. Tony intends to strip it and carry out a complete refinish. More pictures and further information here.
